ABOUT
GEOFFROY DOYON
Benefitting
from more than 10 years of experience
as a professional musician, Geoffroy Doyon
is an extremely versatile and complete
musician. A drummer, composer, arranger,
pianist, teacher and even accordionist
on occasion, he succeeds at everything
he attempts.
After his studies at the Conservatoire
of Trois-Rivières in classical
percussions, his training truly began
at the Cégep of Trois-Rivières.
There, he studied with Sylvain Jalbert,
Chantal Simard, Michel Vaillancourt and
Yvon Bellemare. It was also during his
Cégep years that he first started
composing for the ska group Alaska,
of which he is a founding member. In 2000,
he took part in the prestigious Drum Fest
in Montreal, within the context of the
Yamaha Showcase. In 2002, he
obtained a B.A. in jazz interpretation
(drums) at the Université de Montréal.
He took advantage of this opportunity
to enrich his knowledge with contributions
from some of the greatest artists of Québec
jazz: Paul Brochu and Camil Bélisle
(drums), Ron Di Lauro (Big Band) and Luc
Beaugrand (improvisation). Wishing to
further deepen his drums “performance”
aspect and abilities as a composer, he
completed a Master’s degree in jazz
interpretation (drums) at McGill University
in 2005. There, he rubbed elbows with
other greats such as Dave Laing and Michel
Lambert (drums), Joe Sullivan (big band
and composing). A demo album of 8 original
tracks, and a concert at the Pollack Hall
on May 12, 2004, with a band of 11 musicians,
was the outcome of this degree.
Since then, Geoffroy has been making his
niche as a professional drummer with various
groups and artists: Guylaine Tanguay,
Jon Day, Sophie Tremblay, Raphaël
Torr (a tribute to Joe Dassin), Steve
Gagné (In the air Tonight
a tribute to Phil Collins), Randa Ghossoub,
Frédéric Degrandprés,
Crampe en masse, and many others.
